Geeta Khadka, a 54-year-old woman with a physical disability of Kachankawal Rural Municipalty 6 Jhapa, has faced immense challenges, including poverty and personal loss.

An accident at age three left her unable to walk, and financial struggles prevented her from receiving proper care.

Despite her physical challenges, Geeta displayed remarkable resilience and pursued higher education. Unfortunately, she could not complete her studies due to various financial and physical circumstances.

After losing her father and brother, Geeta took on the responsibility of supporting her family by working alongside her mother, sewing and weaving. Their primary income came from the single women’s social protection allowance that her mother received monthly.

When her mother passed away shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic, Geeta’s situation worsened. However, she received crucial support from the SNJD/LWF, which provided counseling and NPR 20,000 to help her start a street fast food business. Today, Geeta earns between NPR 7,000 and NPR 10,000 a month, allowing her to cover medical expenses and support her needs.

As an active member of a local OPD, Geeta advocates for disability rights and has benefited from various training programs conducted by SNJD/LWF.

Reflecting on her journey, Geeta says, “With determination and support, I can rise above my challenges and build a better life.”

Grateful for the support she received by SNJD/LWF, Geeta aspires to expand her business and improve her financial stability. Her story exemplifies resilience and determination, showing how, with support, it is possible to overcome adversity and build a brighter future.
